January, we start all over...
I originally proposed this boycott,
spring 2005.
It did not ignite into the
national frenzy I
hoped for, but has been effective locally.

As
we continue to build this site, we're asking for your help.

This effort targets the Local Operator and forces competition between the collaborating competitors.
There once was a time when they competed for your business. Today they work together allowing the luxury to set prices. The practice is known as price fixing; which is illegal. The elected official contend they can not find any evidence of collaboration.
These operators have seen how working together can achieve the greatest results. They've watched the OPEC nations stop competing as they drove oil prices to record highs.
As you can see, working together is the key. All of us need to work at making this campaign a success.
Everyone should tell friends, family, co-workers, and associates that working together we can make a difference.
The Local Operators:
Have benefited greatly from spikes in prices and will look you straight in the eye and say they have no control of prices and are forced to charge only what the supplier demands.
Wants you to believe they only profit from sales of merchandise and not from the sale of fuel. Typically saying, “Profits are from purchases made within the store, and the pumps serve as mere devices to get customers in the store”.
Have taken advantage of every opportunity to raise their profit margins at the pump.
Have been able to gouge without a word from the politicians that in the past would have called for immediate investigations. Where are those politicians anyway?
Looking Ahead:
It will certainly become a temptation to buy from the other group a prices fall. But we must not abandon our effort over a few cents at the pump across the street. If that happens, they win and we will once again be at their mercy.
The more of us that participate, the quicker we will see results.
Skeptics
Now before some of you out there call this a vain effort, (read what Snopes says about boycotts) I want to point out flaws that exist in other efforts and how we've addressed them here.
Numbers Targeted – Unlike other efforts that target a couple of oil companies,
(example: the Exxon and Shell boycott) this effort targets them all. All of them should feel the effects sooner or later.Time Limits – There are no time limits. (such as with the forever failing one day boycotts)
This campaign can last for years without skipping a beat. It can become so routine, that those targeted would have no choice but to close for a lengthy holiday. Of course they could change their name every six months.Lack of Participation - Okay, you're right! The Achilles' heel to this campaign would have to be lack of participation. That is why it is so important that everyone get their friends and family involved.
This site is still under construction.

We're recruiting volunteers to distribute flyers.
We're looking for Internet savvy people that
possess a
knowledge
of website construction and a desire to see this succeed.
We're also seeking donations so that we can
create a
permanent location with a very catchy name.
(suggestions for a site name are welcomed)
The flyer can be copied for displayed at work or school.
While your waiting at the pump, give a copy to person across the way.
Oh, that junk mail you receive... it comes with a really nice return envelop.
No postage necessary.
Go ahead and tell
everyone you know about this effort.
Just copy and paste the information below,
and sent it to all of your friends.

About me and this
effort.
This is not about me,
I'm just one guy with one voice.
I would be very
pleased if someone else could take charge and make this work.
I'm convinced the
answer to the gouging is not going to be solve overnight.
I did not believe
the one day boycott proposed for May 15th would have an effect.
A one day
boycott has never been successful in spite of the claims made
in the email
forwarded to me by so many of my friends.
I'm especially sadden to hear from intelligent people thinking such an effort would work.
Spring
2005, I proposed splitting the oil companies into two groups and
boycotting each
group every
six months. I spent my money promoting that effort
(website, domain name,
flyers)
and sent emails to everyone I know,
asking them to forward to
everyone they know.
The proposed boycott did not ignite
into the national frenzy I hoped for,
but has been some what effective locally.
May 2007, Alabama (my home state) had the lowest prices in the nation.
Sadly today we're over $3.00 per gallon and expecting prices to go even higher.
